Description
Meinl Sonic Energy 16″ Octave Steel Tongue Drum (D Amara, 9 Notes, 440 Hz, Navy Blue)
This drum has a deep bass note in the center and eight notes around it. Each of those eight is built from two tongues that sound the same note in two octaves at once, so one strike rings out fuller and longer than on a standard tongue drum.
The result sounds a lot like a handpan. The D Amara scale comes from the handpan world too. It’s a soft minor scale, calm and a little wistful, and it rewards slow playing. Leave space between notes and the drum fills it.
At 16 inches and a little over 7 pounds, it’s a full-size instrument made of stainless steel. Three silicone feet on the bottom keep it steady on a table or floor, and it also rests comfortably on your lap. The sound hole underneath can be closed with a silicone plug when you want a tighter, more contained sound.
You can play it with your fingers for a soft, intimate tone. The included Meinl wooden mallets with rubber heads bring out more volume and clarity.
